Barb is now a full time resident in Traverse City after many years of commuting from Grand Rapids. While enjoying semi-retirement she is continuing her solo NAET practice. Barb became the owner of Holistic Care Approach in 2003 and launched the integrative medicine phase of her career as a holistic nurse advocate and consultant. In 2021 she left the clinic in Grand Rapids to begin her mission of bringing holistic nursing practice to Northern Michigan.
Her 50 year nursing career began in 1972 when she graduated magna cum laude from Mercy Central School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and went on to receive her B.S. in health care administration from Davenport University in 1995. She has completed graduate work in public health from Michigan State University and held certifications in case management, and intravenous infusion. She has completed Level III course work through the Colorado Institute of Healing Touch and Level I towards Medical Intuitive Certification. She is a versatile healthcare professional with extensive experience progressing from clinical to administrative roles, in both profit and non-profit healthcare organizations. She was with Priority Health from 1995-2002 as the Director of Health Management Programs and at Spectrum Health from 2002-2003 as the Director of System Quality Improvement. Leadership strengths focus on strategic planning, and innovation as evidenced by award winning, published disease management programs and public speaking requests. Career emphasis has been program development, implementation and the advancement of holistic medicine. Barbara has served on the Board of Directors for Healthy Homes, Davenport University Alumni Board, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Council for Inforum. She is a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association. After becoming the owner of Holistic Care Approach, she became certified in auricular acupuncture ( NADA), and as a Certified Advanced Allergy Elimination Practitioner( NAET) and a Holistic Nurse Consultant/Nutritionist. She enjoys coaching people through the complexities and challenges of the Eastern and Western health care systems with a goal of integrating these two approaches. She believes NAET is the medicine of the future. The results are mind boggling and rewarding beyond her wildest expectations, to the extent that NAET is able to give people hope and help them become healthy again.
When she became the owner of Holistic Care Approach she set the intention to change the things she could no longer accept. She believes in the power of Inner Healing and to that end she is a Nurse Advocate, and offers:
